Sulphate Removal
When water containing high concentrations of sulphate ions—such as produced water, brackish water, or seawater—is used for injection, sulphate ions may react with barium and strontium present in the formation water to form insoluble precipitates. These deposits can gradually block the reservoir and reduce oil production efficiency.
The application of nanofiltration (NF) membrane technology enables the effective removal of scale-forming sulphate ions from injected seawater or produced water. This technology has become widely adopted in the oil and gas industry to prevent scaling and improve system reliability.
